Gearing up for Holiday Fun

If you’re like me, then you’re already gearing up for the holiday season. For some of us, it’s a marathon of events, shopping, and a glorious amount of food. For others, it’s about time with family, community, and a sense of cheer and wellbeing. However you may feel about the rapidly approaching Christmas music blasting in the grocery store, the holiday season is meant to bring people closer together! Here are a few of my favorite holiday tidbits and events for this year:

Niwot Holiday Magic

Our Small Town, Big Heart motto is especially true during the winter months, as locals come together to put on some spectacular events and create a spirit of community and generosity. I’m looking forward to some of our best annual get-togethers like Enchanted Evening (11/26), the Holiday Parade (11/27) and the Holiday Magic Festive Fayre, which takes place throughout downtown Niwot over two Saturdays in December (12/4, 12/11). This changed way fo celebrating the Annual WINC Holiday Fayre started next year so that we could keep the events going despite COVID, and it was such a success that we are repeating it! It’s going to make Niwot a fantastic destination for fun from Thanksgiving until the holidays.

During most events in Niwot you can find tasty morsels, activities for children, live music, and a host of friendly faces. Niwot is the perfect place to spend holidays and feel all the goodness of this special town!

Christmas in Colorado

The holiday season is an ideal time to turn inward and focus on creating lasting memories. Colorado is filled with amazing towns that celebrate the holidays beautifully. Take a scenic drive (or train ride) through some of our oldest towns and take in all the natural wonders of fall and winter on the Front Range. One of my favorite destinations at this time of year is the historic town of Georgetown and its beautiful railway which is always fun for all the family.

Plus, don’t miss out on some of the local favorite spectacles like the drive-thru light displays for Christmas. Both Longmont and Niwot have some epic homes which go all out on the decorations – be sure to check out 5980 79th Street which has had a fabulous display raising money for local charity for over 30 years! A quick google search can also bring you a list of Longmont addresses that are well worth checking out either in your car or via one of the Christmas Lights tours such as Brewhop Trolley’s.

Cozy Indoors

We know there’s a reputation here for being a bunch of crazy, outdoor enthusiasts (and some of us are), but the holiday cheer doesn’t stop at the door. Many local businesses will host small gatherings and events over the next few months. One such example is the monthly Art Walks that take place in Niwot in which businesses show a local artist’s work, offer refreshments and wine, and create an atmosphere of joy and creativity! Walk along historic 2nd Avenue and stop in wherever you please, meet some new people, and soak up beautiful local art.

Sometimes it’s good to embrace the more indoor nature of the times to have a time of reflection on the year past by and thinking of plans for the future – that’s if your social calendar will allow it! If you can it’s always good to try to schedule some time for some quiet, more contemplative activities – maybe joining the kids or grandkids on some crafting activities, or taking an hour to journal your thoughts.

However you decide to celebrate this holiday season, the DRF Team is wishing you well and sending heaps of pre-Christmas cheer! Find time for yourself in the chaos and spread as much joy as you can. We’re looking forward to seeing you around town soon!
