Happy New Year!

We all know it too well, but 2020 has been epically strange. With so much uncertainty around us it can be difficult to focus on the basics, let alone our goals. So how can we recenter and get back to business with our home projects and productivity? It’s time to get your home in tip-top shape and get ready to thrive in 2021, so here’s a few suggestions on how!

Reorganize (or just organize…):

I have been borderline obsessed with The Home Edit. If you haven’t heard the name yet, you likely soon will. Founders Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin wrote a book (and recently released a Netflix series!!) about how to reorganize your space keeping functionality in mind. We all know it is horrible to do a lot of home cleaning just to have it fall apart the next week, so sustainability is a huge part of The Home Edit process.

I also love Marie Kondo’s KonMari Method! Sometimes putting everything you own in one place really does help assess what you use, love, and need, and what you can do without. Regardless of the method you choose, get some support (a good friend, spouse, a very emotive dog) and stick with it! Getting organized is the first step in launching a new project!

Clean:

This may seem redundant, but getting your house to its best both visually and functionally will help with so much more than home value. Mid-winter is when a lot of homes face the most extreme weather fluctuations and these changes can really affect your home. Now is the time to make sure your insulation (including weather stripping), furnace, plumbing, and roof (and gutters) are in optimal condition.

If you’re not sure what shape your home is in, you can get a home energy assessment through a local technician. They’ll tell you everything you need to know about your home’s energy use and problem areas!

Plan Ahead:

Both financially and health-wise, it’s time to plan in advance. The new year is always a great time to reflect on what you’ve accomplished, take stock, and set goals. Though 2020 put us through the wringer, that doesn’t mean we can’t right ourselves and take 2021 by storm!

In particular, if you’re looking to sell your home in the next year it’s time to get serious. Look for a service providers near you! Niwot has myriad financial advisors, therapists, and home remodeling businesses who are experts on the local environment.

Stay Healthy:

This year has challenged us in so many ways, so it’s important to keep on top of our health in all areas. Whether it’s through attending a local fitness class, seeing a counselor for emotional wellbeing, or planning ahead with a nutritionist, now’s the time to take control of your health and your future.

As always, the DRF Team is here to help you and support the Niwot community! We’re always happy to advise, and we include tons of local favorite services and heppenings in our monthly newsletter!
